3 Reasons to Buy Organic Coffee Beans
You can always find coffee beans in local stores for reasonable prices, so why should you even consider paying a bit more to buy organic coffee beans? Many people start buying organic beans because they are not happy with the taste of the beans they can buy in stores. If you are still looking for more of a reason to purchase organic coffee products, there are three main reasons to consider:
1. Organic coffee beans will not be as harmful to your body.
The difference between an organic product and a non-organic product is the absence of chemically based pesticides, preservatives, and fertilizers. Most organic products also do not include chemical sweeteners and flavors, though that doesn’t typically apply to coffee beans.
You don’t want manufacturers adding these chemicals to your food just to keep them on the shelves longer or because they are cheaper than healthier options. Synthetic ingredients are chemicals your body was not designed to process, and they are harmful. Some studies have suggested that these chemicals may be linked to some forms of cancer and other diseases. Today many of the synthetic products used on food crops in the past are either illegal for food sources or are extremely limited in terms of how and when they can be used in our food.
Organic products are much healthier and less risky, since they are fresh grown without all of the chemicals sprayed over them.
2. Organic products are much gentler on the environment.
Spraying harsh chemicals over the ground can damage our bodies, but it damages the earth as well. Since they are sprayed into the ground, they are inside the fruits and vegetables we eat, so you cannot just peel the outer layer to eliminate the spray. It is scary to think that these chemicals get down into the water supply, where we have to use it for bathing, cooking, and even drinking. These chemicals negatively affect the air, soil and water quality in many communities.
Soil used to grow crops should be rich in nutrients and organisms needed by the human body, but studies are showing it is deplete in many areas. These things are depleted due to the overuse of the land and the chemicals being sprayed into the soil. When you buy organic, you protect the earth and your own body from these pollutants.
3. Many organic coffee bean manufacturers do not roast the beans until they are ready to ship out, so they are far fresher than other beans.
Most people do not know what truly fresh coffee beans taste like until they order from a company offering fresh organic beans. It is incredibly difficult to find really fresh coffee beans in the grocery store today. If you did not realize that coffee beans could be stale, you are not alone. There is a common misconception that any bean purchased whole and ground up at home is fresh.
Unfortunately, this is not true. You have to consider the time between the roasting of the beans and the consumption of the beans to determine freshness in coffee. The only way to enjoy truly fresh coffee is to order from a company that roasts the beans when they are ordered, rather than months in advance. Do this once and you will see the difference between the “fresh” beans purchased at your local store and the fresh beans roasted right before being shipped to your home.
Organic coffee beans are not necessarily for everyone, but there are many reasons to consider buying them. Keep all of these benefits in the back of your mind as you determine what type of coffee to buy next time around. It may take a bit more work to order these coffee beans, but the taste and benefits to your health and the planet may be enough of a reward to spend that extra bit of time ordering and waiting for delivery.
